I really hate pictures of myself to say the least!!!
I have been involved in Pomeranians for a few years now I started showing Scotties 8 years ago. With my first dog I did everything wrong, didn’t research the breed, learn anything , or even do the basics, that I recommend highly. We just jumped in my husband was a Mini Dachshund guy but I felt my 2 children at the time might hurt their backs. I knew at least that much... my only real time with a dog was a year with a rescued Bassett Hound. We chose our first Scottie because she seemed sound and when we played with her at the pet store she didn’t pee all over her self in fear. She seemed sturdy and sweet and she turned out to be all that. She also was a bit aggressive, played to rough and didn’t like to be groomed. When she bit the groomer, who just happened to show Dobermans, the groomer suggested we go to a confirmation class so strongly that she picked us up the next Tuesday. We were off to our new love! At class the it was suggested we find out what our standard for our breed was and I learned what a Scotty ought to look like... Our girl definitely had Terrier spirit but she was a bit long and her ears and tail were long. Over all she was a pretty nice dog who actually ended up with a point on her. Next, I went out and bought the best show dog I could afford, like all the books tell you :) This Scottie, Mya , finished with more reserves on her than it would take to finish 4 dogs! But she finished 3200 dollars later, after I got pregnant while campaigning her, with a professional handler. I met my contractual obligations and Maggee the original Scotty went to be bred with top Studs in the area. Maggee ended up being a excellent brood bitch and Mya was God awful... not a pup out of Mya... but Magee has a son with nearly all his points and two Singapore champions to with two more waiting in the side. Mya was re-homed and spayed. Maggee, unfortunately passed on in 2004, at a young age from a believed pyro. Meanwhile, through all the Scotty Trauma, and boy I could bend your ears till they snapped off your heads, my eldest daughter wanted a dog she could show. Scotties were a bit much for her in size and temperaments. She choose Pomeranians. This time I started right and got a lovely little guy who was just gorgeous. He, of course, surprised me with everything a Pom can and will do. He retained his baby teeth and had to have 10 pulled. His first show, he sucked up a testical and was disqualified. He had them both by the next show. I thank Lori Cole deeply for the patience she had with me. I swore the dog was never going to grow a coat and that he was absolutely HUGE!! Well yes he was larger but good lord it might have been all the peanut butter sandwiches and cheese puffs :) Puff was a spoiled favorite of the kids, boy did he turn into a butter ball. Amazingly we have stuck to it and kept pluggin away. I still have my Scotties. The Terrier disposition, which isn’t the easiest to work with Poms, keeps me solid on track, doggedly taking these guys back to the ring !
